Need help in deciding which Lowrance to purchase. The x 85 or the new x-15 MT. How important is the dual frequence transducers? Sounds like there are some problems with the new x-15. Is it nessary to have both? I would like to put one by the driver seat and another on the bow. Should I get both? Or should I get 1 and another brand for the bow? Which other brand would work with the Lowrance at the same time? Thanks to all who answer. JJ

Depends on your type of fishing, if you are mostly Walleye or shallow water fishing, 60 ft or less, then all is needed is the 21 degree transducer for the X-15. I run a X-15 at the console and a X-15 at the bow. No interference and clear pictures from both. I have Pro staff with Lowrance for 18 years and the X-15 is the closest to the paper charts they have ever had. If your unit has the 2.1 vers. software you shouldn't have any problems, I haven't since I updated to the 2.1, and you will love the X-85 at the bow. If you do any kind of jig fishing you can vert. jig and follow your jig in 40 ft of water. Hope that helps and good luck fishing.

Thanks for the info on the 2.1 ver. I am looking to do more Great Lakes fishing, for eyes at night in spring, trout and salmon on occation. Will this unit work well for fish 150ft deep and deeper? Just got back from looking at an x-15 and seems very friendly user. Thanks for your help. JJ

I have used it on Lake Michigan and Lake Erie. And yes, it will work good in 150 ft of water. I like the pull down menu's a lot like Windows. Good luck fishing.

I've got both, the X-15mt on the dash, and X-85 on the bow. The X-15mt is super clear, and easy to work. I had a few problems at first but upgraded to 2.1 and that seem to take care of the problems. Good Luck....Glen
