I need some advice on fish finders, trolling motors and maybe underwater video. I have 4 boys the oldest is 13 & triplets that are 9. I want equipment that will make time on the water fun and productive. I live in the Kansas City area so I'll be dealing with midwest lakes in Kansas, Missouri, & Arkansas. We go after bass, walleye, crappie, blue gill, catfish, and carp.

There's lot of good info on this site about trolling motors and fish finders. And more information as to your requirements would be needed to give you advise.

As for a camera, with that many kids on-board I'd recommend a camera with a screen viewable by more than one person at a time. I have the older Aqua-Vu camera and only one person can view it at a time. And the kids are always arguing over using it.

Good luck, and good fishing.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-16-01 AT 12:24PM (CST)[p]Don't worry about the gadgets to keep your boys attention. Fish till they are bored and take them back. Eventually, they will sit with you all day and talk and fish.

I am not dogging you, just feel that if you need gadgets in the boat to keep them happy, you are on the water for the wrong reason. Give them a GameBoy and call it good at that point.

As for depth finders, I have been happy with my Lowrance LMS 350A with GPS in the back and Lowrance X48 on the bow. Both are clear and reliable.

Trolling motor is a MinnKota AutoPilot. It lets me fish instead of screwing with the motor.

Since you are starting from scratch, you might want to consider the PinPoint system that allows you to integrate the tolling motor and depthfinders/screens into one neat inter-connected package.

As for the camera. Beware. I used to live in Kansas City and St. Louis and the waters I used to fish (Mississippi, Missouri, Bull Shoals, Table Rock, Lake of the Ozarks, etc) are very muddy and your camera may prove to be a big disappointment.

Best of luck and, most of all, have fun!
