Went out this last weekend and powered up the above noted unit...screens came up as normal. Shortly there after the unit locked up.I powered down the unit and now the following message appears upon reapplying power:

SWI 11 End Exec
Code 00004001
Address C0013F54

Read the manual that states "performing a factory reset will cause the loss of all waypoints" .....big problem, never wrote them down on a piece of paper..

Have any of you had this happen? and were you able to fix it?I have sent an email to Raymarine and waiting for their response as well.

Irish -

I have the same unit.I had a tracking problem and had to send the unit in for the upgraded firmware. The manual said to write down all of the waypoints or down load them through an NMEA pc cable pac.
I wrote them down and sent the unit in for repair. Raymarines techs
said to write down all the waypoints also as the unit would have to be factory reset. So I wrote em' down and sent her in.
I got it back within 10 days with the latest firmware and to my
surprise all my waypoints were intact and no loss of accuracy !!!
I don't know why ??? It had a full firmware upgrade, reset and
teardown to do it. Funny story behind the unit is that I searched
the globe to get one a soon as I heard that Raytheon was making it.
Mine was one of the first ones in america - I weaseled a European unit with Rev 1.0 firmware. The techs laughed at how early my version was.Ancient!!
No problems since - so you can risk it or write them down or
download them, the kit is not cheap but, if you have tons of routes and points it will be easier.
If you can't access the menu or any of it's features due to the
failure/breakdown. Send it in and hope it comes back intact.
Not much more can be done.

Ask for the latest firmware upgrade if available while they have the
unit, might as well get all the goodies when in the shop.

I too have had problems with my RC425 locking up. It was purchased in July of 2002 and worked great that first season. Over the course of the 2003 season it has locked up on me 3 times. Luckily, I had all my waypoints written down on paper. It is still a major pain to retype all those points though. The first time it happened, I called their tech support line and they had me send the receiver in, which was upgraded. They told me that it was probably caused by a voltage spike or sag. Seems a little too voltage sensitive to me, as my LMS350A is powered off the same source and is 3 years older and has NEVER given me a problem. A buddy of mine has an RC420 that has locked up on him 2 times this year also.

Hmmm, power sensitive , what is your source ? Starter batt or
TM batt(s) ? I can see a power drop/spike with a starting batt. but
not a TM batt(s) or electronics dedicated batt.
I've run mine for off a single TM batt and a dual TM set up.
I can monitor my power with my L750 depth finder and my operation
range was a fully charged 12.4v to a low 10.8v and the 425 never
missed a beat. The 425 draws next to no power. Strange.

I power my RC425 off of my starting battery. 2 of the 3 lock-ups occured while the big motor was running. I always start the motor before I turn any of my electronics on. The 3rd lock-up occured in my driveway. I turned it on to show somebody the trolling passes I had made the day before, but it gave me the error message again. After resetting, I was still able to show my passes by pointing at the screen with my finger. I have it on my list of things to do on the boat for this winter. Thinking of puting 2 batteries in parallel with a switch between them for my starting/electronics bank.

Thanks for your help.
