Got my new fishing MN license last weekend (hadda guess wifes statistics!). Anybody figured where to keep these things? First reaction, with that sticky-back format, was to paste it on the console of the boat somewhere, but then I couldn't fish in another boat. Then I thought to put it in my wallet, but the size is all wrong for that. Guess I'll paste it to my fore-head.

Hans, A very good question that I'll take one step further. I chase 'eyes on Lake Superior once in awhile and always get a trout/salmon stamp for those "incidental" catches. The stamp comes on a second sticky-back slip. Thought that was it, until a couple days ago I got an actual trout stamp in the mail from the DNR. Now where am I gonna paste that? I thought the slip was all I needed. Almost hate to call DNR office to find out where it should go. Come to think of it, your forehead idea isn't half bad. Tight lines and Good Luck on opener. Hans,
Almost forgot. I have found that 5'7" and 115 are very good "guesses for the spousal section. Brings a smile to her face every time I give her the license. It is also a good lead-in to the new trolling motor, locator, rod/reel, or cart-full of lures etc....that just happens to be on the same receipt as the license purchase.

Same deal here. I have a pheasant stamp and a duck stamp with no where to stick em. Then there's the federal waterfowl stamp whenever that comes out.
By the way, buy your license now if you live in Minnesota. I wouldn't want to be in that line the Friday before the opener.

Don't stick it anywhere. Fold it over and stick it to itself. Then it's about the size of a credit card and fits in a wallet. Laminate it also if you want to.

Just fold it in half and slide it in the pocket of your wallet. Real Easy

There is nothing, absolutely nothing better than finding someone to clean your boat......for FREE

"Naw, they screwed it up Honey. The Shimano reel was $21.50, and our fishing licenses were $169.99."

Press Release from DNR

DNR Issues Correction About Wildlife Stamps

Stamps Do Not Need To Be Attached To Licenses

ST. PAUL, Updated 12:13 p.m. CDT April 26, 2000

-- Instructions included in recent state mailings with hunting and fishing stamps are wrong, the Department of Natural Resources said Tuesday.

While wildlife stamps must be signed and carried along with hunting and fishing licenses, they do not have to be attached to the licenses, as the incorrect information instructs, according to the department.

The agency is correcting the information for future mailings, said Karen Beckman of the DNR's licensing department.

The DNR has a new electronic licensing system that mails directly to customers the trout, pheasant, wild turkey and migratory waterfowl stamps. Previously, stamps were issued by licensing agents.

Beckman said the DNR has never required people to attach stamps to licenses.

Good one, I'll let you how it works next week when the prices of a womens Columbia shirt and a new St. Croix trolling rod get "mixed-up" on the receipt from Gander Mtn!!!!!-)

Goofy deal that needs work, I agree. I peeled the backing and folded it in half like the other guys here. Works OK. I was sad to see this system. I may be faster for the DNR, but what a mess at the counter and the loss of the stamps is going to be a sad day for us duck hunters that really enjoyed them. I know one can still get them, but for how long? Collectors are the only ones after them now. What a shame. Many great artists were created from that competition.

AuqaMan,

You still get the stamps through the mail. I got mine about 3 weeks after I bought my license. You are supposed to sign the stamps as before and carry them with you. There just isn't room to stick them to the back of the license anymore.

I folded mine over a used "phone card". It fits perfectly and gives it a good stiff backing. Now it fits in the wallet just like a credit card...there is room since the wife has those.... Now the stamps are just one more thing to lose. I guess I will put my Federal Stamp on either my out-of-state SD or ND license.

In Colorado our hunting and fishing "labels" go on a Certificate that is 9.25" long by 3.25" wide. Doesn't fit in anything and you have to keep it your whole life so each new label adds to it.
Sounds like you guys have it a little easy to me.

At Cabelas they folded the thing for me and put it in a water-resistant holder -- nice touch. What was interesting to me, however, is that Cabelas did not have Wis licences, even tho they do have Iowa permits.

I got my Wis licence at Gander Mountain, but they only imprint the fact I've paid for the Great Lakes trout and salmon stamp. If I want the stamp (which I do, since I've collected them from the start) I have to send a request and another $5 to Madison. State governments are so efficient.

Michigan went with this type of license a few years ago. Enjoy the stamp while they still give it to you. I was fond of collecting each year's, as I think many people were. Now your printed tag just says "Fish All Species" and you no longer get the beautiful artwork. A lot of tradition went down the drain.

Yeah, They told me that at the counter when I got my Sportsmans license. But the question I am really asking is how long before the stamps are eliminated all together?

If they made the cards such that the stamps could be placed on the backs that would work better then the current system. Not fond of the sticky back either and am not sure why it was designed that way in the first place. Any one here know? And why didn't they make these licenses waterproof? Like I said, the concept is good, but needs work.

If you DNR guys are watching....make the licenses water proof and capable of accepting the stamps. Get rid of the sticky backs, too. I think that is wasted money.
