I'm looking into a new Lund. I called the dealer the other day to see what they had in stock, they told me a 2002 Mr. Pike 17, and that they'd give me a quote on it. So when i called back, they told me the boat was actualy 2004. Now, this seems strange to me, mostly because what dealer (especialy in Sask, where it's going to sit there all winter) orders in a 2004 boat in October? Is Lund even distributing it's 2004's yet? Is there any way i can tell the difference between an 02' mr. pike and an 04'?
Thanks guys.

The boating industry changes model years in June or July, I can't rememeber which. It does seem silly to buy a boat in April and have it outdated shortly after the ice is out.

Thanks for clarifying the release date, I wouldn't have thought twice about it, except that they changed the date, and said it was actualy 2 years newer. Anyone know how to tell the difference between a 2002 and 2004?

I bought a 2003 Lund in July of 2002. they told me when I ordered it if I waited until after June I would get a 2003, instead of a 2002. A 2004 Mr. Pike is 1 inch bigger in Beam than the 2003, that is one way to tell: Mr. Pike 16 is 89" instead of 88" and a Mr. Pike 17 is 93" instead of 92".
So a 2004 in stock now would not be unusual.
I hope that helps.
Get the serial number, call Lund and ask them.

2004's are definitely out now. I've had one in my garage for about five weeks now...

The date of manufacture, is on the boat ID tag, on my Lund, I think it is on the starboard side of the transom.

Give the following dealers a call. They're always the lowest price
www.rapidsportsmarine.com
www.hootsmarine.com
www.pierzmarine.com
The price you got seems awfully high.

Last two numbers in the serial number are the year.

that price is VERY HIGH!!!!
I have a 2002 1700 Fisherman with a 150 Ficht for a lot less money in Saskatchewan, less taxes. Check out classifieds under boats.

Pikeman,
That price is so far out of the ballpark, totally unrealistic. The closeout prices on the 2003 models in late summer and early fall were $17,000. You are probably looking around $18,000 and some change for an 04 model with motor, trailer, and hull.
Good luck with your search. Call and get quotes from other dealers.

Our first 2004's were here way back in June.
You don't need to call Lund. The year is right in the serial number. The last two numbers will "04" if it is a 2004. "03" on 2003's and so on.

Hi Gary, (and the rest of you price commentators)... :) Pikeman lives in Saskatoon.
Those dealers you listed are all large volume dealers in Minnesota.
He is in a different country and over 1000 miles away. :)
The price of a package in Canada would not have much similarity in actual dealer costs to one from say, Pierz, or even my place.

But T-mac is a lot closer than the other dealers mentioned, so you should give him a call. I think his email is www.townsendmarine.com

That price is way high. You should check and see if your dealer has any 03 Pro V's left.

thanks guys, got a quote from another dealer, at just over 34 000 Canadian, around 26 U.S.
This is crazy, not sure whats up with these dealers.

Thanks for the plug.
But..it is a heck of a long way to Saskatoon from here, too. In reality, he is better off buying that rig near his home in Saskatoon..or someplace else in Saskatchewan or even Alberta.
There are more complications involved with shopping across the border (either direction) for complicated machinery than first meets the eye.

T-Mac,
I dropped you an email.
What do you charge for a boat like this? I don't need an official quote just a price range of what you think it's worth.
Thanks

I not sure this is really fair to the Canadian dealers in your area. They have different programs and pricing and hoops to jump through, than we do on this side. Engine warranties, etc. are different, too.

The problem in Canada the dealers are small volume dealers thus they pay alot more for their boats. Then you
add in exchange, duties and taxes and that is why our boats are much higher. I looked at buying a boat in the
the USA and it would have even cost me more with all the duties and red tape.

With the way our ( Canadian ) dollar is performing boats should be coming down in price from earlier in the year.
Pikeman: Give Drifts and Waves in La Ronge a call. Ask for Don. They seem to be cheapest on Lund boats for whatever reason.

What's the warranty issues if Canadians buy in US or American's buy in Canada
fishhunter
11-01-2003, 09:12 AM
If an american buys a mercury in Canada the US warrenty will cover it, if you buy a yamaha or honda in Canada is has to be servised in Canada only. Dont know about the other way.

According to the Yamaha warranty, their motors are covered by any certified dealer in the world. You may have to prove purchase dates, etc. but they will repair the unit under warranty. There is no problem having yamahas serviced under warranty in the USA or Canada regardless of which country they were purchased in. I got this directly from their warranty.
Honda requires you to have your motor serviced in the country of purchase. I got this directly from their website. I guess that helped me make up my mind about which motor to purchase. I spend 4 months every year in Canada and would probably need to have the motor serviced there as well as the US. Yamaha will do the work in either country.
