Does anyone have success in walleye fishing in heavy algae blooms. There are a number of small prairie lakes less than 20' deep to hit after work on weekdays. But the typical visibility is now a tenth of normal. Lakes of 10' vis are now 1, and 3' lakes are now inches. Does a bloom go all the way down, or is there clear water a few feet down? Seems like the sunlight would be totally absorbed allowing walleye feeding anytime.
I know the warm surface water is a turn-off, both heat and the turbid water. I've not had any mid summer success on lakes I KNOW are stocked heavily, and there is no place for them to migrate. I don't scan any fish deep, and all weeds I pull up are curling brown (even deep ones).
I get an occasional pike or bass, fishing deep weed edges, but no eyes. Should I just sharpen hooks and wait for the weekend drive to the big lakes?
