I currently have a Pinpoint 7520 and a 7420 with a 2700 trolling motor. The 7420 is having a couple of issues missing a pixal line and oil caning on the screen, it is hard to read the screen. It costs more to fix it than to replace it, on the other hand the 7520 has been good, easy to read screen, the 7420 has poor back lighting. Would you buy another Pinpoint graph? With all there company quality problems, I am not sure. I see they are coming out with a new model a TR 320, a 320 x 240 screen. those of you that have run a Pinpoint along side another manufacture how would compare?

I also see Garmin is coming out with 250c color unit, 320x320 pixal. Is color the way to go now? Want to make sure I spend my coin wisely.

Thanks and Merry Christmas moreyes

I've been asking myself the same question. From a performance standpoint the 7520 is the best graph I've used, but over the past couple of years I have had to swap/send it in too many times. Thorne Bros. was good about trading units and the times I sent it in for repair I got it back in a timely fashion so I don't think the repair centers are an issue. I finally finished out the season with an X-15 but I'm comtemplating going back to the 7520. I've posted a poll on several message boards as to the reliability of the 7520 and it seems the majority of people have not had the problems I have, which puzzles me. I called Reeds when I saw they had 7520's on season clearance for $449 (they were all out) and the person I talked to said the 7520 is the only Pinpoint graph they'll carry next season, for what that's worth. Where did you see the information on the TR 320?

I bought a 3700 trolling motor and 2 synchonized 7520s in 2000. It was a no-brainer for me at the time - it was the best unit out there and they had an awesome customer service department. I have had absolutely no problem whatsoever with the units and have been very pleased with their performance. Would I buy Pinpoint again? If there hadn't been a buyout, I guess it would be an unqualified 'yes.' With the buyout, I think that there has been a degradation of technological edge, product quality, customer service and repairability. When the time comes for me to replace, I think that I'll have to take a hard, objective look at what's available before making a decision one way or the other. Sorry for the wishy washy answer, but I guess I'm in somewhat the same boat as you.

The only thing that bothers me about my Pinpoint is the screen glare.

I saw the info in the TR 3 in the last issue of North American Fisherman, they also had a new Garmin 250C color graph. I do like the 7520 just wish the company owning them was dealing their problems better.

It's true. Pinpoint will have a new unit out next year, the Tr 320. That will be the only sonar they will be selling. It's supposed to be similar to the 7520.

Problems with PinPoint - I've had issues with my 7520's screen going black in the hot summer sun, and getting the correct software loading into it. I may be able to get satisfaction soon.

Would I buy another PinPoint - yes.
