An older gentlemen I know who's boating days are
unfortunately over, (he's 80+) recently gave me what he called a boat stick. It's a round wooden
stick about four feet long with a noose on the
end of it. Both ends have a soft plastic caps on them. He said it comes in real handy around
docks when launching and loading. I'm wondering if this is just something he dreamed up to make things easier for him or is this something other
people use????
Useful or not, it will have it's place on my boat.
Maybe it'll bring me good luck...

Great idea.
With the stick you can push off - and with the noose, you can pull yourself in.

A few years ago I picked up a telescopic aluminum boat hook, with a push bottom on one end, and a hook on the other end. Although useful, I think that I might modify it by adding an additional loop as you have pointed out.

Thanks for the update.

Take care

Ness, I saw a nice Lund tied up at Huron last fall that had 2 such "sticks" as mooring lines, only they were shorter (2' or so). and they had a tennis ball on each end along with the loop. They stood the boat off the dock and wouldn't let the wind push it in. Pretty nifty I thought. See ya.
