Do you tie your line to the lure or use a snap swivel? I've heard of people doing both. thanx jim

For crankbaits, just a snap(DuroLock), no swivel.

I almost always use a plain snap with no swivel.(unless using a bait that spins like a Mepps or Dardevil. The snap allows two things to happen. First, you don't have to retie every time you change your bait, and second, in the case of using crankbaits, the snap allows the bait to have better, more natural and uninhibited action.

cross-lock snap seems to work fine for me. Easier than tying a new knot every time I change lures.

Not so bad a question! :-)
We tie direct for jigs and bottom bouncers; use a crosslock snap with no swivel for crankbaits and a crosslock snap and split ring for trolling spoons. For bobber fishing and traditional live bait rigs we tie direct to a small jig or plain hook with maybe one bead or tie direct to to Phelps Floater.
We still use leaders for pitching hardware for pike and muskies.
P.S. Just for kicks sometime try a Texas-rigged Power Worm for walleyes. The 'eyes don't seem to know it's a "bass rig".

There are no dumb questions asked here, just occasional "dumb" responses..;-)

As for your question...

I use just a snap, no swivel, when using cranks (for some of the reasons previously stated by others).
