My friend in Boston is looking to sell a boat, but has higher expectations than i can agree with How about some honest opinions on what this rig is worth. It is a 96 or 97 16 foot Starcraft deep V aluminum with a 40 hp Yamaha 2 stroke. the boat has a flat floor with a console and the motor has trim and tilt. A galvanized trailer is under the boat
Any help appreciated.

Without seeing and/or test driving the rig it is almost impossible to get an accurate fix on how much it is worth. One place to start is www.nadaguides.com.

What about toys and condition and how did he maintain it. How much use and I'm sure we all think we should get more then the buyer thinks it's worth. Let him run a add and see how many people are in the market for a boat right after Xmass! Have him talk to a dealer for a fair price for a trade or if the dealer would broker it. Top of my head, $1500 to $2500 if it was loaded and cherry and I was in the market for such a boat.

If this is a side console model with remote steering, pedestal seats, livewell and such, I'd think it might go between $3500 and $4500. I bought a 1996 Grumman with a 98 40HP Johnson 2 years ago for $5000. I looked at one's starting at $2500, but this one was extra clean and had all the goodies. Two F/F's, bowmount T/M, bimini top, spare tire mounted, trailering cover, 4 pedestal seats, Coast Guard eqpt. Those things add up quick if you have to put them on later. Plus you buy one they took all their stuff off, you got a boat full of holes and loose wires everywhere. I bought it in season, and if I shopped around and waited till this time of year I could have done better, but what the hay, I'm happy with what I got.
