I am thinking of setting up a couple of reels with leadcore to give it a try. What type of knot do I use from mono to the leadcore? Thanks

Scotteye,
Peal back enough of the colored dacron & snap the lead off. About 6" should do. Tie on a barrel swivel, that way when your leader gets short all you have to do is re -tie that.

How about just using sections of leadcore. This would have 2 ends and would allow you to reel the lead back up on the real. I have been wondering this my self. I have seen it before, but for the life of me can't remember.

Thanks

Back to back uni-knots.

All others are good.

I tie an overhand knot in the lead. Then I make a small loop in the lead by doubling about 2" back onto itself. I then tie a palomar knot onto that loop with the mono. Undo the loop and slid the palomar up against the overhand knot and you are ready to go.

A uni to uni knot is a little bulkier. Make sure to remove the lead and it will be a little better. I use this when connecting mono and fireline. It's a great knot.

A swivel is fine with a short leader. But I like to use a 30' fireline leader w/ lead and I need to reel the connection onto the reel. Cant do that w/ a swivel.

I use leadcore occasionally and in one of the mags I came across a unique way of tying mono to lead. Slide the dacron back about 6" and cut the lead, tye a real loose overhand knot in the lead but don't tighten, slide mono in the dacron where lead was cut out, I try to push it in up to lead. Now gently ease the loose knot up over the mono and dacron up to about 3/4" from where the mono exits the dacron and tighten. Makes a little wee knot and as of yet it has never broken or come apart. It is a little bit of a test of ones patience to do it but it is the smallest joint I know of. Have Fun
