I'm looking for a steelhead-type rod for dead stick and slip bobber fishing (for bank fishing). Cabelas sells a 9 ft European Zander rod that looks like it would work. Cabelas also sells a 8'-6" steelhead rod in IM6 or IM7 that would work too. I'm on a budget and Cabelas seems to offer good value. Does anyone have experience with any of these rods?

They are good rods!
If you fish for larger species like pike, walleye, and cats go for the Predator rod in the heavier weight. The Zander rod is a much lighter action but will work well for walleye and panfish. The Euro design is much lighter and more responsive then most American rods so a heavy is more in the middle of the road and more of a medium action to medium light. For float fishing they are hard to beat.
Check the Web Bargain Cave at Cabelas for reel called D*A*M Quick FS Spinning Reel. This is a knock off of the Shimano Baitrunner and this reel system is A+ for these style rods. I like the Shimano but this is a good deal at that price.

Euro rods are a hoot to use and once you get on to the system your hooked.
Hope this helps.

I have a couple of the Predator series rods that I use for bank fishing carp or cats but as the other post indicates would be too heavy for walleye. The quality of the entire rod series is very good. I picked up some rods from Gander Mountain a couple of years ago that were on sale for $25. They're 10'6" and have been great for walleye and smallmouth.

Just got a couple Cabelas Predator 11' rods & D*A*M Quick reels. My friend says they are perfect for surf fishing Salmon & Trout on Lake MI. Compared to the Shimano Baitrunners, they were half price. Can't wait to get a few big Kings on these in Sept. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. I'm putting in my order for the Zander rod as I think the Predator rod would be too heavy for walleyes and crappie.
