Hi there! I am new to the board. Have read it a while and have found it great....a great source of info vs. bashing! Good for you!

I just purchased a '99 Lund 1900 Pro-v Tiller with console from my uncle. He bought it new in 99 and only put between 40 and 60 hours on it. He bought a northern fishing camp and the boat sat at home in his shop becuase he could not get it up north, and was not home much during season to use the boat. He took it out 3 times in the last two years.
The boat has a 90 Honda Tiller 4 stroke on it. The unit has an eagle view GPS on it. It went 32 mph with the aluminum prop on it, which wanted to redline and "spin out"....6200 rpm. He also gave me a stainless that I did not get to try. (got the boat at the end of October,,,so only tried it twice up here in Saskatchewan)
I did not like the tiller angle...was not relaxed and had to bend way over with it, and am doing what I had planned in the first place.....change it to remote steering.
The unit already has a console, so it just needs cables, steering system and motor conversion.
I fish mainly tournaments in our Sask river system and rarely go more than 6 miles one way.
Two questions:
1)I have a chance at a Merc Opti 135 year 2000 buyback for almost straight across, or would you stick with the 90 4 stroke?
2) the boat is rated low because it is a tiller. Is there a way to get it reclassified and has anyone ever done this????

Thanks for your replies everyone! Happy fishing! I am just heading out to my ice hut...just finished some cold -49 celsius (with windchill) weather so am ready to get out of the house!

Maybe I asked too many questions at once....can anyone give me some info on:

1) what is better, an 1999 Honda BF90 or a Merc Buyback, year 2000 135 OptiMax with warranty?

2) Can a boat be replated by the coastgaurd, I do not want to go over the HP rating due to insurance

Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, Canada does NOT live by the ratings/hp. issues on boats. So that might not be a problem for you. Insurance...I am not familiar with what goes on in Canada but if the hp. rating is not considered by the law...is it a concern of the insurance co.? I do know many tiller guys who go over the U.S. hp. ratings if they live in Canada. You could call Lund at 218-385-2235 in the U.S. or Lund Canada(Genmar) at 204-326-4431 and ask them.

The 90 Honda 4 stroke is too small for this hull... IF you have a choice...

If you are gonna switch it to a wheel boat...the bigger hp. the better. Sounds to me the 135hp. will work great for you. Sounds like a good deal. (if you are switching it to a wheel boat, this will be way under max. hp. for insurance issues I would think.)

It should move about 38-42 miles per hour with the 135hp. Merc.

"You gotta have a Lund with a black outboard on it!"

Thanks

Thanks for the response....I am concerned that if I was in an accident that being over max hp rating could be an insurance issue, but I will phone Lund and see what the scoop is.

At the time the unit was bought, in 99, my uncle tells me 90 was the largest tiller they could get him, and went with it.

Does the 135 have a good track record....Did a lot of searching, but only found 200-225 info and they have many opinions on it....

when you say 90 is too small for this hull, what exactly does that mean? (i'm a rookie boater) Thanks again!
