Is there anyway to change a Mercury short shaft into a lon shaft?
I currently have a 1971 20 hp Merc. (in great shape) but it is a short shaft. I need long. I have heard there is, I dont know if I could buy a new leg or what.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Chad

I have a 25hp johnson that was converted to a long shaft. It was installed by a dealer back in 1990.The cost at that time was around $150.Also had electric start added at a cost of $300. Dont know about a conversion for a Merc though.

Mercury did make a long shaft conversion back then which consisted of a 5 inch spacer, drive shaft extention, water pump tube and bolts. but that was in the 70tys. Check out this site www.acbs-bslol.com/Vendor/Twincity.htm
Chad, I have a 20hp merc long shaft that I haven't run in a few years I think it is a '78. It's solid, actually runs better than my 2000 Johnson 30hp. I'm in Monroe if you are interested.
