View Full Version : Do you tie or snap on lures?
I've been fishing many years but only recently started to get serious about it. This and other boards help a lot. I've always tied my lures on but recently saw information about using snap swivles and just snaps for many lures. Obviously I use leaders with snaps when appropriate but they usually have swivles too. Besides when fishing plastics, when should and shouldn't they be used? And what about ball bearing, barrel, etc. etc.?
I use Norman Speed Clips on all of my cranks. I pull off every split ring line tie on my cranks. The Speed Clip ties onto your line and then you clip it onto the crank. I've been using them for years and love them. The general rule regarding snaps and barrel swivels is that if it spins, use a swivel, if it doesn't spin, use a snap.

We use a round bottom cross lock snap on the cranks off boards. That's all you should need IF you properly tune your lures.
On the leaders for Jets or Dipsys we use Sampo ball bearing snap swivels. Both ends for harnesses, one end only for spoons & stick baits with a round bottom cross lock on the other end.
If your running leaders under 15 pound test I'd run Sampos on both ends for everything.
Hope this helps.

WHEN YOU TIE ON TO EVERY LURE YOU ARE ASSURING A FRESH PIECE OF LINE AND GOOD KNOT IS PRESENT.swivels are just something else that fails, unless you are trying to prevent line twist
