goon,
The speed sounds about right. I'm kinda curious which pitch prop you actually have, 19 or 20? And is the prop aluminum or SS? The reason I ask is that my father has a 1800 Explorer w/ a 140 Johnson & 9.9 kicker and with a 21 pitch factory 3-blade aluminum; motor mounted in the 3rd hole from the top and it comes up a little short in the RPM category. Top speed is around 42 mph @ 5400 rpms(dash tach). Given this info it sound likes you've got it about right. Max rpm on the motor is 6200.

I have that engine on a Triton 18' center console fiberglass boat and have the 14" x 20" stainless prop that Suzuki supplies Johnson. Runs 46 at 6200 RPM. Could probably get more speed with 22" but I don't want to sacrifice low end. Your numbers seem right. I tried one of the 3rd party 21" props but it didn't perform as well as the OEM prop. Make sure you are running a 14" dia. The engine is geared down in order to handle the larger diameter prop. Supposedly, less slippage. The engine is great.
