View Full Version : Canadian Rockies Fishing
Taking the family to the Canadian Rockies next month for a little hiking and r&r. Wondering if it would be worth packing some fishing gear to take along. Has anyone fished Banff,Jasper,Yoho or Kootenay parks in Alberta and British Columbia. If so, what lakes would be worth checking out. Tips on bait and technique would be appreciated. I would imagine it would be mostly Trout fishing, which I have never tried.
Thanks,

If you plan on fishing in the National Parks, No bait, and dont even let them catch you with a drop of lead in your tackle box.Lake minawanka in Banff has some great lake trout fishing. Your best bet would be to fish the streams and rivers with a fly rod its Awesome. you will need a national parks fishing licence.
Good luck

I'm planning a trip to Kootenay Lake this fall--great Kamloop fishing. Further north at Kinbasket is some great Dolly Varden fishing. And for big brookies head up to Fortress Lake east of Kinbasket. Are there walleye in those waters too?
No walleye just awsome trout fishing.
I was out there a couple years ago. Did not fish any lakes but did fish some rivers. Used a spinning rod and casted spinners. Plently of bait shops out there to buy the area specific baits. Caught a few 10-12" trout. If possible on your trip, I would highly reccommend driving "the Road to the Sun" in Glacier National Park. A beautiful drive over a mountain pass (52 miles 1/2 day) Also, if you want to park at the top of the pass at the visitor center, I would reccommend starting the day early as parking gets packed by mid morning. Saw a grizzley bear and several mountain goats when we were out there. any questions get back to me at Lance@up.net.
