Rear Seat Question

I recently purchased a used Skeeter 1950. When we put a rear third seat in the sleve and someone sits on it, it is so tight that it takes everything 2 guys have to remove the seat. It makes the seat virtually unuseable. Short of totally replacing the botom plate (most of which in under the carpet), does anyone have a suggestion how to make this work. I have thought of grinding down the post, or reaming out the reciever, but neither seems like a good option.

Any help would be appreciated
