with the water levels very low in our area reservors there is alot of things in the river showing up that I have never scene before!!!!!Tree stumps, Rocks, car bodies about anything ya can imagine!!!My question is this if a person would buy a new out board motor {I am talking 60 hp 4 stroke EFI Merc.} would it be a good idea to go to the Big Foot so ya get that big gear case? They say that it is 33 percent heavier than the standard gear case. Merc claims ya can prop that motor and get the same speed out of it as a standard gear case. There is a little different gear ratios Big foot is 2.33.1 and the standard is 1.83.1 people have told me that that gear ratio is not that much different and ya would not notice much difference in the performance. I am kind of thinken that heavier gear case may be nice with our low water levels. It is more money but not that much. I would like to here some imput on this. Thanks in advance.

Fish:
I've heard the Big Foot also has a deeper draft than the regular motor so you might be defeating your purpose. I think the only real benefit of a Big Foot to a non-pontoon boat is if you have a real heavy boat and a relatively small motor (like on a hp restricted lake).
I've never run a Big Foot, though. This is just my impression.
Good luck.

What advantage does a big foot give a pontoon? Just curious. I have a pontoon and keep it on a 9.9 lake. What would the big foot do for me? Just curious. Also, the lake I am on is thinking of upgrading to a 25 hp limit. Would it be beneficial to go with the big foot or not that much of a difference?
Thanks!

They tell me the only difference from a regular 4stroke and a big foot 4 stroke is the gear ratio on a big foot is just a tad lower which means it will loose a little speed on WOT the gear case is 2 5/8 of an inch longer which does mean a little more draft but the lower unit is 33% heavier than the regular gear case. At least this is on a 60 hp B.F. like I have. Mercury tells me with all there figuring with my boat setup I will loose 3mph at WOT. That is not a big deal to me. I want that heavy gear case cuz I do alot of river fishing and with the very low water levels around here. I think it might be good to have that .Good Luck!!!!!!!
