I placed a thread in the original post...but...I will post it here, too.
The answer to the distance to the horizon, over water, at eye level is 2 to 3 miles!!!!
TBO/MN had it right - 1.23 x sq root of the height. WAY TO GO TBO/MN!!
I was floored when I found this out!!! The calculation can be found in the Annapolis "BOOK OF SEAMENSHIP" that is used as part of the curiculum at the Academy.
I thought it was between 7 and 10 miles. My friends thought the same thing.
As old as I am I still like to learn!!!!
