Is the remaining parts on the Genesis worth anything after the exchange program? I do not know what everyone else had to do on the exchange, but I still have the motor less the foot pedal and a few cords. I was not sure if it should be thrown away or attempt to sell the parts.

I'd put them up on eBay if I was that tight.

Minnkota is offering an exchange of the genesis for a new motor from there existing lines. I chose the 74# power drive with auto pilot and universal sonar. There were a couple of other options, also. It sounds like when you talk to them the deal is/was not always the same for everyone. I am not sure how new the motor must be to qualify for the program. Mine was new spring 2003. I got nervous about what I would run into down the road. There is a lot of posts on this issue in the archives.

Jonesy,

I made the exchange program and my new Autopilot appears to have the same motor and housing as the Genesis so I think I ma going to keep mine so that if I need these spare parts I have them. I am not positive these are exact exchange items but I bet if I have a problem it will be worth the investigation.

To All,

Just wanted to say thanks for all of the info. The exchange is in the works. Although I am not sure about cutting the power, control and foot pedal cables tonight,I'll wait for the paperwork. All I can say is" what a stand up deal from Minnkota".

How Does the exchange work? I could not find any information on the minkota web about exchanging a genesis motor. Do you have to e-mail them to get any information?

I will have to say there was a little tear in the eye when the cords were cut. Today there was a great big smile when I drove into the driveway and the tall box was there. Less than one week turm around. The only time I will miss the genesis is when it is time to pull the motor out of the water. For now that is a few months away. Good Luck!

I am confused. I own a Genisis and have been very happy with it. You mention cutting the cords. Are you using the genisis foot pedal with the powerdrive/auto pilot motor?
In the exchange program, Do you send the genisis back to minnkota?

You have to cut the coiled cord that runs from the head to the bottom of the unit, cut the power cord cord and send in the whole foot pedal unit. You keep the rest . Just get the phone number from there wed site and call. They gave me 2-3 weeks after the call to decide which new motor I wanted to exchange for.
