After this spell of hot weather we are finally getting a good cold front moving in. My question is will this improve fishing or in anyway change the patterns?? The lake in question is nearly 85 feet deep but surface temps have been in the 80's for a week.

Fishing for anything has been very slow - have'nt ever had much luck at night, but then again I never tried very hard.

Thanks
Mike

Mike,
If you haven't spent much time fishing for walleyes at night, you are missing out on some fantastic fishing. We fish the Saginaw Bay as much as the weather allows and it's usually worth it. I'm not sure what type of lake you are fishing, but the Bay has numerous weedbeds which hold walleyes most of the time. We jig for them mostly in the daylight, but when the sun goes down, casting or trolling Rapalas, Bombers or Thundersticks seem to work very well. We also use leeches and crawlers under a lighted bobber with success.
Cold fronts do seem to affect the walleyes, but if the weather doesn't get progressively worse, the fishing only takes a day or so to return to the normal pattern. Hope you can give night fishing a try, I don't think you will be disapointed. Good luck with your fishing.
