What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a four stroke?

Here is a huge one that every one misses...

2 stroke oil @ $25 / gal. I used 10-15 f-gin gallons in my 200 last season. Food for thought.

Two friends of mine are full time marine mechanics in the twin cities and both of them told me on separate occasions that the only way the current 4 strokes can remain legal in the future (2008 is to somehow add a catalic (sp?) converter to their exhaust systems, just like sutos have. Most of the new, DEFI and oil injected, 2 stroke engines are nearly as clean burning as 4 strokes, plus 2 strokes emit much less carbonmonixide. In the event the CARB board decides to begin checking outboard motors for carbonmonixide emitions, 4 strokes will probably be in trouble and not able to meet compliace regulations. From what I have read, Cal. is already looking at or is considering checking outboard motors for carbonmonixide emitions. I should also add that I have owned 3 four stroke Yamahas.

Good luck,

Advantage 1,

you should shop around, my brand name 2 stroke oil is $16/gal.
which is still not cheap but better than $25! I've never bought
4 stroke oil but I can't believe it would be cheaper than that,
would it?

Have a good one!

Walleyewacker; Four stroke oil is the motor oil you use in your car.How much for 12 qts - $12-15. Change it every 100 hours. There is no oil in the gas. Another four stroke advantage is how quiet they are while running.

what ever the law might change to in the future whatever you have now will not be banned. You can use it till its ready for the scrap pile.
