I seem to be having a problem with my Minn-Kota trolling motor and was hoping someone on this board may know what the solution is. The trolling motor seems to be stuck on one speed and does not respond when I adjust the speed control on the foot pedal. What is causing this problem? Is this a death sentence for a trolling motor or is it worth fixing? How much would something like this cost to fix? Where is a good place to fix this problem in the Twin Cities?
Thanks in advance for any help! It is greatly appreciated!
This is a common problem and is caused by one of two things:
a. bad foot pedal.
b. bad control board in the motor.
Typically a $100 repair bill, but in general worth the cost.
Take care

Check the yellow pages for trolling motor repair, and you will find several sources in the Twin Cities. I would rather not mention specific shops in this response.

If you are mechanical in nature, take it apart, clean it and inspect it. There are about 6 screws to remove on the backside. I had this problem on the water once, and repaired it in no time. There is a plastic knob that slides up and down for the speed....take it apart and see if it got off set somehow. They are sensitive to dirt at times.
Good luck!

I had the same exact problem with mine last year. Mine was stuck on one speed as well, but eventually stopped working entirely. I had to have the board replaced. I went to Capras in Blaine and they had it done in less than an hour. Mine was still under warranty, but it was around $100 if I remember right.
