View Full Version : child seat in a F-150 supercab?
I am finaly getting a full sized truck, but my wife keeps nagging about being able to put a child seat in the back. according to the dealer all but the biggest oversized seats fit, but I was hoping to get some real world imput on the mater. so, have any of you great people put a car seat back there, and how well did/does it work. truck is a 2001 f-150 XLT supercab (haven't decided betwene the 60/40 bench and captians chairs yet).

I don't have children myself, but I have had friends with kids put their car seats in the back seat of my F-150 supercab, and it worked just fine. Plenty of room back there for a child's seat. Your wife should have no worries.

Just a suggestion:test drive a supercrew.Lots of room in the back, easier to get in and out of the back seat
Juls, thanks that was the conformation I needed.
3-way~yeah, I like the Super Crew, but don't like the too short bed, and higher payment.

I have a 99 f150 we have had 2 diffrent seats in the back. The one fit great the other didn't leave junior any leg room so we took it back & got another like the first. so if you have the seat go ahead and put it in and have the kid sit in it. Just remember they do GROW a lot in a couple years....Scott
I have a Dodge quad cab with 2 kids in car seats. The front seats are captains chairs. Here is how we do it. My 2-year old son sits in the front seat with the seat as far forward as we can. Turn off the passenger airbag. My wife sits directly behind him. Our infant daughter sits right in the middle of the back seat. Her seat extends a little over the console in the middle of the front seat. I'm 6'7" and my wife is 6'2". It's not the most comfortable for my wife solely because the back seat just isn't as comfortable as the front.
When I bought the pickup, we had one kid. I will get a 4-door pickup or Suburban in the next couple of years. The pickup works now, but my kids aren't going to be midgets, so I'm going to need to bite the bullet.

I have an F250 - supercab - always got a car seat in there. My wife didn't like the idea at first but now she would rather drive the truck than her Mustang.
When my wife brought the concern up to the dealer they went out and found the biggest seat they could get their hands on put it in, delivered it to the house and had her drive it a couple days.
Good luck.
PS I have the captains chairs and they are pushed all the way to the rear.

Just had a new baby and just bought a new truck.I went with a 2001 Chevy Silverado extended cab because it has the roomiest back seat and has special child seat provisions built in(2001 models).I can make full use of seat adjustment in the front without sacraficing leg room and can still recline as far as I want to and have access from both the driver or passenger side. The Ford and Dodge did'nt have these provisions.I considered the Ford Supercrew but did'nt want to spend the extra dollars and loose box space. Also its a great to vehical and gets super gas mileage.
thanks for the input everyone! We are planing on starting a family in a year or so, and this will be a short term lease, (plus my wife and I are both elves) so child size isn't an issue.
I too like the larger back seat of the GM, but being from a FORD family (and getting "A plan" pricing) It simply isn't a good option for me. I don't like paying more for less, and like the looks of the ford a bit better anyhow. plus, (and I don't want to start a fight here) I think ford produces a slightly better product with better fit and finnish...but then again I am from a ford family.
