Lost in the Weeds

OK, New to the Walleye sport. When fishing for Walleyes on the weed lines do you fish tight to the weed line, in the weeds or a little ways out from the weeds???? When slip bobber fishing the weeds would you anchor in the weeds and cast to the weed line or anchor out from the weeds and cast to the weeds????
Thanks for any tips!!
One good way to fish the weeds is to cast or slowly troll the new Spongy Bug Weedless Floater from Phelps Tackle with any live bait. It works great. Also, when anchoring, don't go into the weeds, anchor outside of them and cast the Floater with split shot or a slip bobber rig to the weed line or in pockets of the weeds. The Spongy Bug will allow you to fish thicker patches of weeds. They are available at Gander Mountain I believe. Good luck fishing.

I fish alot of weed lakes that you can't troll so I us a good weedless jig tipped with a crawler or leech and cast right in the weeds. I like weed weasles or slo poke jigs. if you are new at it it takes a while to get use to poping it off the weeds and letting it fall. sometimes if you are not sure if you are on a weed or if it is a fish just lift the rod tip and put a little pressure on and see if you feel a slight pump and set the hook. good fishing
Another tip! Don't forget the inside edge of the weeds, I've pulled many a big walleye on the inside when guys were dying on the outside. I second Slo Pokes, awesome jig, pitch it into pockets and hang on! Remember short casts.

If you have the time tonight, stop in the chat with Ted Takasaki and he can give you some answers. He will be with us tonight (Wed.25th) from 7pm central time to 8pm central time. Who better to ask than a World Walleye Champion? ;-)
I have used the Timb'r Rock Jigs from Lindy to fish the weeds, and have had great success with them. They seldom come back with weeds junked up on them. I'm not saying they never do, because nothing is completely weedless in my opinion, but they come very close.
I usually fish from outside the weedline and cast into the weeds, because I really don't want the fish to know I'm there. Weedbeds will often have what look like little roads that fish follow, and you can see them if you look for them. Concentrate on those areas first to produce fish. The outside edges of the weedbeds will have curvy gaps that will also hold fish. Cast to those areas first also.
When using slip bobbers, you can really cast those just about anywhere in a weedbed and catch fish, but the above mentioned areas will have better odds than if you just cast into the bulk of the weeds themselves. My thought process on that is, that if your cast lands in a mass of weeds, the chances of your bait making it to the right depth is very low. If it hangs up in the weeds the fish may never see it.

What do you mean by the inside edge of the weeds?????

The inside edge of the weeds is the shallower side of the weeds. It is where the weeds stop growing as the water gets shallower, i.e. going towards shore or the top of the hump.
