i just purchased this unit a couple days ago......took it out one time to play with the buttons......am very impressed with the number of available settings and the user-friendlyness........NOW, can someone give me a few pointers on whether i should be running this thing on auto, bottom or manual?.......and if the answer is manual, does someone have a few settings that would help me the most..........thanks guys

We have had this unit for a couple years now, and it works great in the auto mode. The bottom feature just gives you a split screen image that zooms in on the bottom portion of the sonar screen. You are going to love this unit, with the great resolution and detail, you get excellent bottom seperation. If this thing shows fish, they're there! This is a very user friendly piece of equipment, and very reliable and accurate. Good luck and good fishin'!

I have had these units for two years. They are the most user friendly sonar out there. I run mine in both auto and manual.

As far as settings go, turn the surface clarity to off and the whit line to three. That works best for me.

Good luck and keep the line tight,

Chuck,

The Auto, Bottom, and Manual settings are for the way you want the LPG 2000 to display the sonar information.

In the Auto mode, the LPG 2000 will change the Depth Range automatically, keeping the bottom reading displayed on the screen. By using the Range control, you can vary the amount of area below the bottom that will be displayed. What you are doing is setting the Lower Depth Range number. If you are interested in showing the second echo, turn the Range control to a deeper setting. Want to maximize the display resolution? Adjust the Lower Depth range to its minimum setting (the LPG 2000 will not allow you to set the Lower Depth Range shallower than the current depth).

The Bottom (Bottom Lock Zoom) setting will set up a split screen with the zoom window on the left side and the 'regular' window on the right. The LPG 2000 will again vary the Depth Range to keep the bottom reading on the display. You may use the Range control to set the Upper and Lower Ranges of the Zoom Window.

The Manual setting will allow the Depth Range to be totally controlled by the user. Using the Range control, you may set the Upper and Lower Depth Ranges to any setting you want, as long as you have a minimum vertical distance of 5 feet. So if you were only interested in seeing sonar information for the top 20 feet of water, you could set the Lower Depth Range to 20 feet. If you were only interested in sonar returns from 7 to 32 feet, you could set the Upper Depth range to 7 feet and the Lower Depth Range to 32 feet.

Settings: I have been told by one of our Sonar Engineers that I run the Gain too high. Maybe, but I like to see all the fish under me (including baitfish). I like the following settings:
Mode - usually I am fine in Auto but I also like to take a closer look using Manual, Gain - at least 80%, Chart Speed - 3 to 4, RTS Window - 4 (you should all learn to read and understand this - it can give you more information than one of the old style flashers!), Surface Clutter - depending on what depth I am at and what water/weather conditions, I will run this anywhere from a 1 to a 5, White Line - 1 or 2, Voltage - Auto, Show Gain - On, Noise Filter - On, Chart Lines - On. Everything else I run on auto or off.

By the way, if you would like some additional information on some 'hidden' menus not mentioned in your manual, e-mail me direct with a request and I will e-mail the information back ( greg.walters@techsonic.com ). Let me know if you can view WORD documents.
