I have a Fenwick HMG-AV rod that suffered (endured?) having the end get caught in a screen door. The tip is intact but the top guide is bent into an odd oval. Fenwick does not offer replacement parts or repair work (in fact one of their helpful bits of advice was to get a replacement top guide at walmart). This rod takes a Titanium SS304 guide (#6 top guide). Does anyone know of a source to order one from (I couldn't find it in the Jann's Netcraft catalog). Second question: Are these hot glued on so could I heat it up and replace a new tip like an insert on an arrow? Of course it couldn't have happened to one of my $30.00 dollar rods. I can't find any rod builders in the phone book (West Central Minnesota) and wouldn't mind doing it myself unless I risk ruining the rod. Thanks for the help.

Thois ois a very easy job, and most bait shops around here will do it for $2 or so. If you cant find anyone to do it you can order the tip and a stick of the glue they use from cabella's online. With the glue and the tip all you need is a regular lighter to heat it up. To take off the rod tip just heat it up slowly and take a needle nose pliers and check if you can slide it off, try often so you dont overheat anything (which could take the finish off the rod...) Once you take the guide off immediatly take a cloth and wipe the excess glue off.
To put the new guide on you need to heat up the end of the rod tip glue stick with a lighter until a small ammount starts to melt, take the new rod tip and get the glue on the inside of the guide, and slide it on the rod, making sure to allign it perfectly. Let the glue cool a little bit and take the excess away from around the guide (there should be excess, meaning that it is completly adhered in all places by the glue). If it didnt align to you liking you can take the lighter and heat it up and it should be movable when warmed up. Hopefully this will help you get the job done, MarbleEye's

I live in Fergus Falls. I'm pretty sure that Christopherson's in Alexandria will replace guides and tips.

You can get the rod tip repair kits at Fleet and Wal-Mart. But I'm sure you'd like the same tip. The kit will give you the glue. Actually, any hot glue would work. I use 5 minute epoxy on the rods I build. You can still get them off with heat. I've had hot glued tips turn on me in hot weather.

Try these places to find a replacement:

Good luck. Its an easy job. The hard part will be finding the right replacement.

Thanks for all the help. I'll track down a replacement and give it a try.
