With all of the recent discussion on dull hooks, I was wondering if anyone here has tried sharpeneng hooks. I have seen a few automatic ones in the store. Seems like George Bush endorsed the Mister twister brand one a few years back.

I have been a firm believer of having sharp hooks when fishing. Although I've never used any kind of "gadgets" I find a stone of rectangle shape works best for me. I have a piece of grindstone that I picked up from Grindstone City Michigan (you can find them all over the ground) and I just run that sucker over the top and both sides of the hook. It points that hook like nobodys business. I works great for me. Now if your using a lure with nine hooks than............

A sharp hook is as necessary as the rod & reel itself. It can make the difference between gettin em or not gettin em. The best hook sharpening divice I have ever found is the small yellow handled file made by Lure Jenson...We sharpen hooks 2-3 times a trip sometimes, when fishin for Kings.

Thanks folks. Think I'll pick one up. I baught a CottonCordell RatLtrap today. The new hooks were so dull I could drop the lure into my shorts and ride a bull without any problems.

Two gadgets that I use - most often - diamond pocket thingy - works like a file or stone but is same as the diamond stones for knives - cuts steel very quick - good for touch ups. - quick - easy - $5.00
Berkley's battery line remover - has a small grinding stone - good for large hooks - major re-shaping - etc. Often get one free from Berkley as a rebate offer - or 10-12$$ also great for unspooling old line.
PLus I've been known to use a Dremel and burr or stone for pre-season,
Also find the more Gamagatsu hooks I use - the less I sharoen....
