I know this isnt directly related to fishing but we camp on a Large rock in northern Quebec, when we fish up there and I wanted to know if I could get some ideas as to what to use for a shower up there as opposed to jumpimg into the lake in the Spring and Fall!!! The little solar bag is no good and Cabela's has some expensive, small propane units, it will usually be for about 3 - 6 guys. Any ideas? or something that you have tried. I was thinking of a 55 gallon drum about 10 ft off the ground with heated water, filled with maybe a bilge pump or something. Just a thought. Thanks for your ideas or advice!!

We use a little pump that you can purchase from sears. It has a pump that runs off AA batteries on one end and a shower head on the other. We then put a pot of water on the fire and when it is warm we dump it in an empty cooler.Hot shower!

What we use in hunting camp is one of those weed sprayers that hold about 3-5 gals. Heat water and mix with cool water. Pump up and spray down. Usually can get about 2 showers per tank.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-26-01 AT 11:00AM (CST)[p]Give this a shot. I like mine:

I still like to use the "Sun Shower". We use it with a rope and pulley over a branch and water heated on the stove mixed with lake water. We use this method with the "Sun Shower" in the winter, too, during the deer hunting days. This "Hotman" shower is the alternative but ends up a "one person shower" with 3 gallons. It works and the reheat of the water isn't a long period, just more inconvenient then the "Sun Shower" IMHO.

Showers are for wimps! Hehe, just kidding. My longest record to-date for going without a shower is 25 days. I was on a mountain in Alaska, so none of the shower aids were practical. But what I use religeously are baby wipes. They even make some now-a-days that don't have that smell we associate with a baby's bottom. On my last trip I used some Lever brand towlettes, and after 4 days I smelled fresh and clean, or at least I didn't small like #####!

There are also no-rinse soaps, but I've never used them and have a hard time understanding how washing my hair and not rinsing it would help. I've have used that anti-bacterial no-rinse hand wash on some outings, but cut back on it a few years ago when, after using it daily for a few weeks (I did all the cooking) it caused my hands to dry and my fingers split open.

Here is a simple way that we use. We heat water in a 5 gal stainless steel milk machine bucket. Most farmers don't use this type anymore, it has a handle that pivots on the top and a pouring handle at the bottom, use a cover from a same size pan. This makes for a hot water heater you can leave on the fire the whole time, for doing dishes, washing your hands and anything else around camp. We then mix the HOT water with cold lake water to the right temp. in a 5 gal bucket. Then use a small 2 quart pan to dip the water out of the mixed bucket and pour it on yourself, lather up and rinse using the same pan. You can easily get two showers per milk bucket (three if the water is boiling) and depending on your fire it doesn't take long to get another round ready. We use it while camping on an island with a large group. No complaints yet. We also use a tarp hung between three trees and stand on the tarp fringes on pitched ground to keep the feet out of the mud. Just our cheap way. Good luck...Doc

When I was in Desert Storm we did'nt have a chance to take a shower for appr. 3 monthes. We heated water at night, took a wash cloth and wiped ourselves down every night, keep in mind that we were rationed water. Just this kept us going!!
