What are some of your suggestions to rejuvenate the carpet in my boat? It's only two years old, but some of the carpet is pretty matted down.

A couple of thoughts:
1. Remove the carpet and replace it with vinyl.
2. Remove the carpet and replace it with a new piece of carpet.
3. Go to a hardware store and simply rent a rug cleaner and give it a very good cleaning, with the appropriate cleaning materials.
A hint that my wife taught me, is that after you go over the carpet in your boat, with the "soaps and other cleaners" to go over it again, with a solution of vinegar and water in the cleaner. The vinegar really takes out all of the soap and leaves the carpet very fresh smelling.
After the carpet is completely dry, give it a good vacuum and it should look like new.

If you try to always vacuum the carpet at the end of each fishing day, it will really help to keep your carpet new looking.

Another thing that lots of folks do is to use pads (heavy rubber matts) in the area of extra wear and or bait spillage. These matts help to keep the "stuff" out of the carpet.

As I said on the first post - the best thing to do with carpet in a boat this is used for fishing, is to have it gone during the times while you fish. Either put a different floor covering in the boat, or cover the carpet with something while you are fishing in the boat.

Some folks pick up carpet runners from the home building store to cover these areas of high traffic.
Any thing to keep the dirt out of the carpet will prolong the new look of the carpet.

Take care

Another tip for carpet. After awhile the carpet fibers tend to ball up and mat down. After you have cleaned the carpet as the previous post explains get a wire brush and bruch it against the grain. You wil find it give more lift to the carpet and seperates all of those fibers. When your done the carpet is not only clean but looks a live again.
