View Full Version : Transom Electric Motor
I have a Alumacraft Magnum 165 with a 60hp, I want to put an electric on the back. How big, is big enough, thrust 50 -60lb ???
I have a 24v on the bow.
I have a navigator 165 and a 42lb. minkota that does the trick for me.

You will want to keep your system matched so a 24volt is the only way to go. I would get the one with the most thrust you can afford and the longest shaft length. Jim
I would stick to 42" on the transom. And I think you could go 12V on a separate battery in back if you wanted to. A Maxum 50 should be able to do the trick.

If you plan to use the same batteries, I would have to agree with jimmyj. If you use one of two batteries for the 12volt, you will get a premature death from your batteries.
When one drains from the transom, it will unbalance the batteries when using the bowmount. If you can somehow alternate between the two batteries or always charge the one used for the transom before using the bow mount, you will be fine. Just don't use the bowmount with one drained battery, it will shorten the life of the other non-drained battery.
