Does anyone have experience with this lodge? How about fishing this area?
Plan on a mid August trip. Taking my own boat.

Thanks for the info.

wea,

I was up there the first week of June, same as last year. As far as the lodge goes, the food is excellent, breakfast is what you order, lunch is prepared on an island by your guide, if you choose to take the guide service and supper is buffet style, all you can eat, all first rate.

The accomodations are good, comfortable, and clean. The rooms are given a once over by the maid service every day, and I never had to worry about anything being stolen. The staff is very accomodating, and will try to do whatever you ask them to do, within reason.

If you do get there, and want a guide, I would ask for Jim Caan, we have used him both years and he is wonderful! The week we were there the weather was hot, with big blue skys and not even a ripple on the water after the first day (these are the toughest conditions that I know of for walleyes). Jim went way out to make tough conditions better, and after some serious miles via water, we managed to really get into them, and for the last 2 hours of the trip, I thought I died and went to heaven!

I too brought my own boat, a brand new Lund, and had no problems with it or with anyone messing with it while it was tied to the dock, loaded with fishing tackle and electronics. However, be warned the the ride North on 502 was really rough, and you should allow yourself some extra time to accomplish it. Also be aware that this area is very wild and remote, and some of the fauna (last year we came within 75 feet of the biggest brown bear I have ever seen) may think they are at the top of the food chain...

We, all 9 of us, went home with our limits of Walleye, and some Northern Pike, ate plenty of them, got lots of sun and fresh air, and in general had a wonderful time. I would recomend this lodge and especially Jim as a guide to any one. You really owe it to yourself to do it. The experiance will probably turn you into a Canadian addict, I know it did me.

I agree with eek. Jeff and Heather ran it when I was there and the service was first class. The fishing was good most days and eek is right. The roads do really stress the shocks..

good luck

wea,

Also since I was busy running off at the lips, I forgot the real important part, get lots of Firetiger jigs, I used Northland lip stick and fireballs w/a stinger in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 oz. tipped w/a nice fat sucker minnow. I know that 3/8 and 1/2 oz. sound heavy, but if you fish where we did, you will surely need them.

Just so you know, the last 2 hours of the trip, the 3 guys in my boat spent most of the time at least doubled up, sometimes w/all three of us fighting fish at the same time. My buddy Davey hooked the biggest walleye I had ever seen, but lost it trying to reach it with the net when the hook straightened out. No kidding, it DWARFED the 9 pounder I landed 5 minutes later! Had a white spot on its tail the size of a cue ball! Must have been Moby Dicks Grandpa.

Enough said. If you hook up with Jim, ask him to show you where we were.
