My port livewell valve does not shut off completely so the livewell leaks when the valve is closed. The valve switch works fine. I took the switch off and I cannot make any adjustments to make the valve close completely. I have a Targa 1900 ('99 model). I believe the cables lead to the back of the boat - that means the batteries, oil resevoir tank, and platform have to be removed. I know I can save money by doing it myself, but is it something that a simpleton like myself can do??

Lawrence Anderson - you have the same type of boat. Can you help me with the above response.

You have to be able to access the valve itself to make this adjustment. You need to loosen the cable clamp that holds the cable in place on the valve body and move it one way or the other.

How do you change a livewell pump in that boat? The pumps must be easier to get to than that?
That type valve would between the transom intake and livewll pump. It must be accessible some fairly simple way?

All of the livewell pumps and the bilge pump is located at the back of the boat under the platform that holds the two batteries and the oil resevoir. I have had everything taken out once to replace the Rule livewell pumps with Mayfair cartridge pumps. If I take off this platform again, can I make the adjustments myself to the livewell shutoff valve (is it easy to do) or do I have to take it to the dealer?

If you can get to the valve it is not hard to adjust, It has a clamp that works just like a lawnmower throttle cable. The cable has slipped, or stretched.

Thanks for the information. I will try to make the adjustment when it stops raining - but by then, I'll be out fishing. I'll find some time somehow!!!!! Thanks again!!!!
