I am looking at purchasing a 115 Hp. Merc. factory second 4 stroke outboard. It is a 2003 and comes with a 1 year warranty. Does anyone have an opinion on one of these motors? Any experience?

Just curious how much are you saving from buying new/first run??I priced out a 04 ~115 horse four stroke at $7995 locally...How much are the factory seconds??.....Thanks....Wahoo

what makes it a second ? paint ? or????????. why not the full war???. just curious .
From what I understand, a factory second is any motor that goes back through the factory for reconditioning. It might be a demo motor, or a motor with a problem. It goes back through the factory, fixed or gone through, then sold as a second. I just ordered one, 2003 Mercury 115 20" with a one year warranty: $ 5,900. I could not find anything comparable in price. Is it a good deal? Ask me in a year or two, or three. I have never owned a new outboard, but this will be my 11th. I was going to detail the few problems I have run into with outboards, but figured that would be the kiss of death for this one.
