Battery Issue Question

Well, I pulled a stupid stunt :frypan:! I was hooking up my main boat battery to a charger and hooked the leads up wrong, Red to Negative and Black to Positive. My charger made a snapping noise upon plugging the charger in so I looked, thinking it was just "burning in the connection" and noticed what I did wrong. Of course I immediately unplugged the unit and removed the leads. My question, did I damage my battery? My charger? Both? What do you think?

Sparking the battery will have little effect on the battery.
The charger may or may not have been toasted.

Simply put, connect the charger to the battery correctly and see what happens.

If it charges normally, everything is good.

If it doesn't - have the charger fixed. If you have a doubt about the battery, you can take the battery to a battery store - like Batteries Plus and have it load tested.

Good luck

Most chargers have built in "Reverse polarity protection", check the owner's manual or on line with their website. chances are you're OK.
Or like REW mentioned, hook it up the correct way and see if its working

Many chargers have a built in thermal circuit breaker. The snap you heard was probably that tripping. Hopefully it reset itself and you are Ok. If not, your charger is probably junk.

Well I put a trickle charger on the battery in question last night and the indicator lights show the battery fully charged today so I think the battery is OK. All of my other batteries are fully charged now so in a week or so Ill try out my other charger. Thanks for the replies.:)
