Yamaha 250 HPDI Alarm

My 250 HPDI recently sounded an alarm I am not sure what it means. The oil reservour was full of oil and the water discharge tube was blowing water full speed. The discharge water was cool in temperature. Could it be the oil feed system is plugged somewhere? I did notice there is some oil around the seam between the upper end and lower unit at the top of the shaft portion. The boat would travel about 8 to 9 miles at 4000 RPM before going into alarm. If I went faster it would alarm quicker. If I stayed at 3500 or below it was OK. I was on a vacation in Voyager and did not have a choice other than to baby the motor. Once the boat alarmed I had to wait for a few minutes and then could go again. The motor is an 03.

RE: Yamaha 250 HPDI Alarm

I own a 2003 250HPDI. I can't tell you what the alarm was warning you of. My suggestion is to get the motor into a Yamaha Tech ASAP.
At my last notice there where no less that 18 updates/changes for that motor.
The last one was for a complete oil pump replacement.
I'm on my third powerhead and never heard an alarm.
My latest powerhead continues to run very strong, more power than the other 2 had, so I think they finally found the fix.
