It's a nice side by side. The problem with choosing a side by is there is so many nice ones to choose from.

RE: Ruger SxS
I'm with BirdDog....I have a Ruger in my safe O/U that I just can't shoot.I'm 5' 9" and for me anyway ...it just doesn't fit well.
Have your buddy look into a Grulla Armas. The entry level model I think is a model 209. The only thing wrong with it in my book (checkbook) is price.....I would only use it at the range. it's a Pretty..... What's the ruger S/S going for? |
RE: Ruger SxS
Cabelas is asking $1929.00

RE: Ruger SxS
Birdog, I wish that there were to many to choose from! When it comes to SxS in the USA it seems that they have really fallen out of favor with the public. While there are quite a few of the low priced, aka. junk, ones out there there are very, very few really nice ones made today.
I shot one of the Rugers last year and was rather impressed with it, which is hard for me to be impressed with a 12ga. SxS I just feel that 12ga. should be O/U and 20ga. should be SxS. Call me goofy but thats what I've always thought. If you want a nice 12Ga. SxS by all meens grab one of the Rugers. You will not be disapointed. One other SxS I shot last year was Weatherby's ne 20ga. with double triggers. The gun came up and shot very nice once I got used to the 2 triggers. I have been shooting a Browning BSS for over 20 years. These have not been made in a number of years but are still available for reasonable prices if you hunt around. |

"Birdog, I wish that there were to many to choose from!" There's many nice sxs's to choose from, here's a few of the many.
1. Weatherby's SBS orion or Athena 2. SKB 385 3. Heckler + Kock Fabarm Classic Lion in the Grade I, classic and elite 4. Charles Daley Empire hunter 5. Ruger gold label 6. Beretta Silver hawk and EL 7. Browning BSL I haven't even scratched the surface of SxS's available. If one was interested in a SxS he could literally check out hundreds of them. RE: Ruger SxS
Have you seen one of the Browning BSL's? The only thing I have ever seen on these outside of there catalog was one for sale on GunsAmerica for $12,500. Ouch! That's a little outside my budget.

RE: Ruger SxS
Update---Good news and bad, first the good, my friend bought the Ruger Gold Lable, now the bad news, I'll have to drive 500 mi. to look at it.----------------------Reelman1, its nice to hear of another BSS fan, I bought my first one the first year they came out, and my second one the year they came out with the select triger, and then another and another. The reason I an so interested in the new Ruger is the designe. At 6.25 lbs and a round action, perhaps it will feel more like the 20ga's that I love so much. Over the years, I have owned or shot most of the guns that Birddog has mentioned, and have found most of them to be heavy, clunky, poorley fit and finished. One of the reasons that I have turned into such a 20ga (&28ga) fan is that most of the 12ga SxS's that I can afford, feel like I am hunting with a fence post. At the present time I am shooting an Arrieta 557 20ga, and just love it to pieces, but there are times when a 12ga that is fast to the sholder and quick to the point would be much more gooder.---See, just when you think I might be a gun smob, I drop gooder on you.

RE: Ruger SxS
The Sept/Oct 2004 Shooting Sportsman magazine did a comprehensive article on the Gold Label. For the price it looks like an excellent choice. I like the look of the clean round action with no exposed screws. My only complaint would be the barrel selector which seems reversed.

RE: Ruger SxS
Too Expensive! Tell him to wait and buy a Fabarm in the meantime.
