re carpeting bunks
 

Im going to recart my bunks , and i see not to use treated lumber , so if that is the case can I use regular spruce and water seal it ? and should i use contact cement to glue the carpet on ?

Rather use cedar. But if you use cedar, since it is softer than some other woods, use a lumber size that is at least 1/3rd larger in size.

But if you want to use treated lumber it is just fine. Just be sure that you have a good layer of carpet on the bunks - especially if you have an aluminum boat loaded on the bunks. Then, be sure to use stainless steel fasteners and you will be just fine.

Another very good recommendation for bunk lumber is the use of Cypress.
Cypress is a very strong but rot resistant wood.

I'd try and get the cypress. Wet carpet and treated lumber sounds like a recipe for extreme chemical reactions between the bunks and aluminum hull.

White oak would work well too, and might be easier/cheaper to find.

I had to redo the side rails on my shorelandr and and after buying the marine grade carpet, staples and such then spending the time to cut and install all that I think the $30 a pop alumacraft gets would have been a better way, ...just a thought

If you have an aluminum boat, check out Ultimate Bunk Boards. Never have to recarpet again. I put them under my Lund two years ago and couldn't be happier. Others have posted here on their positive experience with them. I don't know what the experience of glass boat owners has been, but they're ideal for aluminum rides.

Jay, they still hold your boat tight at launch? How about leaving the lake, even winched, do the slide sideways or anywhere?
