2010 60 HP Merc tiller
Anyone know who builds this motor? I was told Yamaha builds it but don't think he is correct. I am thinking of getting a 1750 outfitter Lund and want to know if the motor is a dog. Or should I put an Etec on it.

I don't think Yamaha has built Merc powerheads for quite a few years now. I do know Tohatsu builds their smaller motors. I think the 60 is American made.

If it's a Mercury 60 horse EFI, I believe it was built in a Mercury plant in China, like my 2006 50 horse EFI. Only difference is the electronic control module and an intake restrictor in the 50.

Yes, made in China, and what isn't??? We all said that about the Japs back when, now see what we get..........just about about anything electronic that any good.....My China 40 HP has been fine..has a 6 year warranty also.

I have a 2005 60hp EFI.. Been a great motor... Get smartcraft gauge and you can get rpm's down to 500-550 and troll in the 1.5mph range.

Trust me when I say you can do a lot worse then hanging a Yamaha on the boat. :rock-on: |

No more Yamahas for me! |
Yep Mercury builds them in China. My 2008 Merc 60 EFI tiller is mounted on a 2008 Lund Alaskan and I run a fairly heavy load and I can still get 36 mph with a 13 Pitch Vengeance prop. I am very happy with the motor. I also have the smartcraft tach to adjust trolling rpms. These newer Fourstokes are not near as doggy as the first ones. I have about 100 hrs on the motor and no problems yet. I wouldn't hesatate to buy the same motor again.

Peter8, I have a 2005 60hp Merc EFI and it is a great motor. I have tried all sorts of things to troll into the 550 rpm area...where can I get the smartcraft gauge/control that can get my 60hp down to 550 rpms?! |
