"Value Priced" sonar
 

I'm in the market for a new sonar. Fixed income, bad economy, so $200 is my upper limit. What's the best FISHING GRAPH in that price range? I don't care if it works at high speed, I want good resolution on the fishing site.

For just sonar in that price I would suggest Eagle 320c, I use its Lowrance twin x67c on the bow and really like it a lot, screen is a bit small compare to 5" units but being colour it has very good detail.

Eagle FishMark 480 is priced at $199 and the 320 is $150. I have always had good luck with Eagle products. I ran a Eagle Accur 240 for years and it was solid.

Yet another vote for the Eagle. I have the 320c on my fishing canoe. It shows bottom (and bottom transitions) very well - at least at the depth I have used it on (up to about 60ft). It also marks fish well. I have been able to anchor over crappie and see both the fish and my dropshot rig with the 320c and have used it to find suspended trout on inland lakes. As long as you can mount it close to you, the screen size is fine. The one difference between the Eagle 320c and the Lowrance x67 is that the Lowrance has a flasher option. Not sure if that matters to you.

I run an Eagle 320 in the bow and have always been happy with it- it often outperformed the $650 Lowrance I had at the helm (Lowrance unit is now history).

I have had a 480 for 3 years its been a very good unit and never had a problem with it. I just moved it to the front of the boat and hooked up a 642ci as the main unit. I havent had a chance to put that one in the water yet.

Let me know what you end up with. I am in the market too for a color unit for my bow and am looking to pick up a used one or some sort of a deal.

Hey Hans, I agree with the guys who posted about the Eagle 480. It isn't color, but it really is a great unit. I just picked up a 480 (no xducer) in a portable case with a vex battery on the C list for $50, so another $60 for new xducer I got a great deal.

But the $200 on this has been the price for about 5 years now, and its a great unit, great resolution and unlike some of the other units we have had from our buds at Lowrance the past few years, this one actually has no problems, for us anyway.

I have an Eagle 320 and a Humminbird 565. Generally the 565 is the better performer. At the specific depth of 150 feet the Eagle does better because of the adjustable ping speed. If you'll be spending much time next to another 200 Khz unit the adjustable ping will help reduce interference from other units. The 565 does a better job of showing fish and my jigs. The 640 vertical pixels is a definite advantage. The 83 Khz wide cone in water 50 feet and less is useful.
