Snap Weight 50/50 method

I was wondering have many people used the 50/50 system and have you had very good luck? I would appreciate any help.

I've used it. It's like anything else we use. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn,t

I'm a big fan of both the 50/50 and 20 plus method. When conditions call for it, they are both very good.

There is some debate as to the accuracy, but I will say if you match the Precision Trolling book, the numbers are very close.

I like it also and not just for Walleyes. We do a lot of White Bass fishing here in the midwest and for catching bottom hugging or even suspended fish it works great. Boat speed, line diameter and linecounter accuracy are determining factors in how close you will be to the Precision Trolling numbers. Also I believe different snap weights have different amounts of drag and that can be a factor also. But as Mex said.... it gets you very close.

Kansas State,

Have you actually tried this (UDC) system to see if it works? If I was going 1mph and want to reach 20ft what weight would I use? What would I use if going 1.2 mph or 1.5mph for the same depth? Thanks alot for the replies.

RE: Snap Weight 50/50 method

I read that article a year or two ago and it did not strike me as complete.

I'm not saying it doesn't work, but like many things, it may work really well for the anglers that have spent years working with it.

As stated above the 50/50 method is not perfect either, but has been used by many anglers with success. The 50/50 method gives you a range and when working with any sinking method like lead or weights, turning the boat slightly can have a huge affect and that is a minor factor when you think about it.

Good luck,

does anyone have a picture of a snap weight? i bought a 7th edition precision trolling bible today and there is a chart for snap weights, but i'm clueless to what they look like, or how they are rigged.

-thank you in advance
