Thanks for the info. I hooked up with some local guys from Pittsburgh and we're set for the 1st week of August. I haven't decided if the boat is an option yet since I'll be going with a...

Just wondering why taking your own boat would restrict you from going to one of the portage sites? You don't have to take the boat over the portage, right? I'm like you though, I like to...

Sturgeon River Outfitters, Savant

I may have an opportunity to fish here the first week of August this year. I did a search of the site and couldn't get any hits. Has anyone that may have fished here have any comments? How's the...

RE: Fishing Lodge in Eastern Ontario or Quebec

PM

Two places I would recommend depending on how far you want to drive. The first place is Club Trout Lake about 25 mile out of Belleterre, QC. It's about a 15 hr drive from the Pittsburgh area....

RE: Domaine Poutrincourt, Quebec

Leonard

I have been to a lot of different places in Canada fishing over the past 10 years. This is the only place that I have returned to consecutive years. If your primary target is walleye,...

RE: Leeches in Canada

Mickey

We use crawlers and not leeches due to the pricing. I've heard that you can put a fish carcass into a nylon stocking and hang it off the end of your dock and leeches will attach themselves...

RE: Caesar's Lodge Quebec?

Daryl

Retire 55 and andy are right. Don't underestimate the Clova Road. It can be absolutely brutal if the conditions are right. I've been to Caesars a couple of times, but have always flown in...

Look into Lac Poutrincourt. This has been by far the finest walleye destination we've been to. It's a solid 12 hr drive from the Thousand Islands crossing crossing. A few bucks more thatn...

Never did go back, guess when you experience not so good fishing, your not in a hurry to go back, although, I still feel that their facilities and operation are of the finest I've been to....

RE: Grilling Fish

Pat

Just returned from our yearly journey to the North for walleye. Wanted to let you know that I used your recipe as a change of pace to our usual fried fish. I was a hit, the boys loved it so...

RE: Replacing trolling motor batteries

I know where I have my batteries checked, they combine a load test along with a check of the specific gravity of the battery acid in each cell. If you do replace batteries, I would highly recommend...

I'm with you on the deet products. Just dosen't seem like it's worth the risk. Lots of good non-deet substitutes to look at. Thanks all for the feedback.

Thanks for the tip. Did a search on "Ultra-Thon" and everyone spoke very highly of the stuff. Also found 2 other repellants that were highly recommended. A product called "thermacell" and one...

Good Rain Gear in Canada is worth it's weight in Gold. Look into Kool Dri. They are very light and extremely durable. I used to wear my first one small game hunting on damp mornings, and...

Good advice guys. Baxter, you are so right on the clothes. It seems we never wear 1/2 the clothes you take, although one year at the Gouin in late July a cold front came through and the temps dropped...

Fly-In Weight Limits

Haven't done a fly-in for a few years because we always seem to get slammed on over weight charges. Just curious how you guys that fly-in deal with 80# or 100# per person weight limits. Sometimes I...

You're right. I really don't think there are any really isolated areas on the Gouin. There are drive-in places at the South end and there is a road into the Obijiwan reservation on the North...

In 1998 we went to "Super" and in 1999 we went to "Gouin #3". Super was pretty isolated, but at the far North end of our limits with the boats, we could hear the logging operations although...

I was at a garage sale over the weekend and bought a 1 gallon metal can of Johnson 50:1 2-cycle oil. It was completely full and appears to have never been opened. Is it safe to use? Does this stuff...
