That's what I did when I replaced all my pumps last year, I clipped the old plugs and spliced them onto the new pumps. Make sure to leave enough wire on the plug for the next time!

I use the double ended extensions on my Folbe holders to push my rods out further. I pull heavy 3ways with 8oz of lead often without any issues. Mine are all rail mounted

It's not a huge difference, but 15# core has less lead per unit length so it doesn't get as deep with the same amount of line out. I do like it because you can drop line off your setup much faster.
