Do you mean the wirebound manual-style book that has all the dive curve information in it?

I think I have a copy of that up with my "up north" fishing gear I store at my dad's house. I'm actually...

Sometimes gunk can get in the gap between the clevis and the line. If you don't already have one, try a small bead in front of the clevis.

Maybe try using smaller, folded clevises? I like using...

3 oz seems a little heavy for drifting, unless the wind is really blowing. Whether it is too early probably depends on how deep/large the lake is overall and how the weather's been. I've caught...

To me, I think it swings both ways. It sorta depends on the fish. Some days you can't beat a crankbait. The next day they might not take anything but a plain nightcrawler under a slip bobber or free...

That clip was better than the others I've seen. Interesting to watch how often the pike go for the lure's head. And how long some fish will follow it before striking while others just blast it.

I've caught as many fish from what I learned reading that book as anything else I've picked up since. I had my mother order it for me when I was about 10 years old (c. 1975) for my birthday by...

Thanks,

I was just going to try a rocket bobber for casting distance, but I might try one of the clear ones for brook trout if they happen to be rising the day we go. I think I even have one...

Spinning tackle and small dry flies?

So I've got a few small dry flies I've collected over the years. I've had a lot of fun in the past using foam bugs behind a bobber but I recently came across the other ones I have and would like to...

Okay, thanks, I'll try some both ways. I'd seen that Matzuo came up with a slow death hook with a swivel attached to the hook eye to (presumably) decouple hook rotation and the leader; and in a...

Thanks, SlimTastic, that helped a lot.

I'm tying with 15-lb fluoro and attaching a swivel to the eye of the hook (Trokar) as well as the upstream end of the leader. Going to make a few smaller...

Slow Death Rookie Question

Anyone know where I can find an image/illustration showing the right way to put a crawler (real or gulp!) on a slow death rig?

I've done far too little of it, but from Labor Day for the next 3-4 weeks would get my vote.

I've used both. The line is a little easier to work with at higher tests than the leader material, which makes me worry about my knot strength. It's subjective but to me the leader material *seems*...

I use Seaguar for leader material on braided main line and sometimes for tying spinner rigs. It's always done the job so I haven't experimented with other brands. I've never tried to spool a reel...

I don't think I've ever eaten them side-by-side. I can't say I have a preference. I agree also with the comment about bluegills--if you take the time to fillet them they're very good too.

In Canada my worst was a trip in Quetico Provincial Park in 1999 when I had an 8-day long gallbladder "attack" (at the time I had no idea what it was). It started the day we paddled out of BWCA over...

Thanks everyone--a bunch of great ideas

I remember when I was a kid Mr Twister used to make little tiny (maybe 1/64, maybe 1/32) jigs that used to work pretty well on crappie at times. I had...

Thanks for the ideas. I gave this a halfhearted try a number of years ago, but it was later in the season and at higher speeds the baits had a tendency to roll. Its too bad no one has designed a...

I'm interested in experimenting with trolling swimbaits, maybe plain or on a spinner rig. Any thoughts/advice on hooks and/or jigheads for this? I'm thinking baits around 3-4" in clear water, fishing...

My biggest, which wasn't very big in all honesty, came on a slip float/nightcrawler. Maybe that qualifies as a "rig" but I voted "other" in the poll. The biggest I've ever had on my line hit a...

I've never had a Rapala lure break per se, but I have noticed that with the Husky Jerks (in Tennessee Shad, my 'confidence' lure up on the shield) they'll often fail to catch fish ofter landing 3 to...
