Tourney,
The obvious solution to the use of any vacuum is the solution that is being adapted by many many home owners these days.

Simply put - they either build a new home with no carpet in the home or take their existing home and remove all carpet from their home.

No carpet, no need for a vacuum.

But, the flip side is that if you have all hard surfaced floors, you then need to look at good hard surface floor scrubbers that can do a good job of scrubbing these large areas of hard surfaces.

But, the one good thing about a hard surfaced floor, is that when the floor looks and feels clean - it is clean and you will be good to go.

But, that is a change of subject and the subject of an entirely different thread if one wished to pursue it.
