I emailed Dupli-Color about how to prep the aluminum. This is his reply:

Thank you for contacting Dupli-Color, we appreciate your interest in our products.
Anytime you're painting aluminum, it is recommended that you use Self Etching Primer, first.
You'll want to sand the aluminum as well to dull it, then clean it, then Primer, then apply Bed Armor.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
