I have an English Setter and he's amazing. I can give you the names of a couple of really good English Setter breeders if you'd like. (one of them breeds labs too)
German Shorthaired pointers make really good all around pointing and waterfowl dogs. If all you care about is waterfowling though, you can't beat a lab.
