Default Repair of a small hole in a lower unit

Neighbor has a Merc. outbard - '80's - that has a small hole poked in the lower unit and I'd like to repair it for him. I've got TIG welder but know that welding cast aluminum is no fun (also concered that the cast alum. has soaked in lube to the point the it wouldn't work anyway).
Have also considered J-B welding an aluminum patch on it.
Any thoughts on this?
