Default X-15 Problems

I just purchased a boat and it came with the X-15 with dual transducers (200 and 50) with GPS. I have all the settings to factory.

Problems:

1. The 200khz transducer will not read a bottom so therefore it doesn't even register. The range shoots to 500ft and the depth flashes 300ft or so. It just doesn't work at all. Is there anything I can do?

2. While on the 50khz transducer it does fine sometimes then all of sudden the range goes to 10ft and flashes 5.7ft. I have tried to take the auto range OFF and set the range manualy then I get alot surface clutter, then I try to set the auto range back ON and it jumps right back to 10ft. Is there a setting to keep it from jumping back to 10ft? Do you have to program any of the AUTO settings?

Maybe this is all a lost cause but if anyone would know it be Walleye Central

If you go into the menu and find the settings for the transducer and make sure it is set up correctly there. You could have a software problem. I would go to Lowrance's web site and see if they have troubleshooting help. I did call them once and got excellent service. Good luck.

When Lowrance first came out with the dual transducers for the X-15/X-16 they had quit a few issues. Most people resolved it by replacing the dual transducer with a single 200 KHz unit. So depending on the age of the unit the boat came on, you might have one of those bad transducers.

My 50/200 never worked right in shallow water, it would lock up on 1.6 ft. no matter what depth I was in under 5-6 ft. I bought a 200 transducer, worked great ever since. I think a lot of people had problems with the dual freq.

I think it's the older model. Would it be better to buy a 200 transducer and run it alone or just run the 50 that's already there. If I run the 50 that's there I am still having the problem with the range jumping to 10ft even in water greater than 10ft.

If it is a software problem can Lowrance still fix the older models.

I'm guessing its a transducer defect for which they have had many w/dual set up. Try calling Lowrance direct, they may exchange it for nothing as they did for me last year, its worth a try. If you know someone else with a X15 take your unit and try it with their transducer, this will likely tell you the problem.

Hey guys
Thanks for the all the help I'll try to call Lowrance and see what they have to say. If the 200 transducer doesn't work I will probably be back for more advice.

Thanks again

I'd guess your transducer is bad, but I suppose could be a software problem.

Check your software version by:

*Press MENU twice
* Select SYSTEM SETUP
* Select SOFTWARE INFORMATION

Note which version is installed in your machine and compare it against Lowrance's latest release on their website. If you have an old version (like the first release) your problems might be solved by downloading the latest version. Have this software info available when you call the technical help line. It's likely they will ask you what version you have. Good Luck. Jim Carroll #588
